AL amyloidosis is caused by an abnormal protein (light chains) made by abnormal plasma cells found in the bone marrow. Plasma cells are part of the body’s immune system. They are responsible for making antibodies, also called immunoglobulins. The symptoms of hereditary ATTR (hATTR) amyloidosis can vary widely among people with the condition and even within families. Different symptoms may appear at different times for each person.
